Dataweavers grow international presence by welcoming Alex Angas to the team
Dataweavers recently welcomed Alex Angas as the newest recruit to the growing team and adding another senior resource in the region. To hear a little more about why Alex chose Dataweavers, and what he expects out of his new role – we virtually sat down for a chat.
How did you find yourself in London?
My movements have been pretty varied over the years. I grew up in Adelaide, Australia and then in pursuit of life experience moved to Melbourne, and then to London. Then I moved back to Adelaide but my partner and I decided we left London too soon, so came back - now as a family. It’s been quite a journey!
Tell us about your professional background.
So, early on in my career I was doing what was called Systems Administration back then, which is kind of what DevOps has become now. From there I went and moved into development and got into SharePoint for quite a few years. More recently I have been doing Sitecore development. So, DevOps has always been a part of my career path, and recently there has been more of a cloud focus in that respect, which I’m really interested in.
What is your interest in Cloud solutions?
I like how it is a completely different way of looking at how to build and deliver software, without having to worry about the boring stuff so much, managing servers and all that. There is so much opportunity to create interesting solutions which is exciting.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I have two girls, a six-year-old and a seven-year-old. So, obviously, that takes up most of my spare time. Apart from that, I'm interested in music and when I get the chance I like going to gigs. I don’t have time for much else!
What drives you, personally and professionally?
Professionally, I really care about the work that I do, and I care about the team I work with, and that everyone's putting in their best effort. I really like working with passionate people that care about what they're doing. Culture is really important to me, which is why I was really drawn to the role with Dataweavers.
So, in that vein, what made you choose Dataweavers?
I honestly didn't know about Dataweavers until Ben gave me a shout a few weeks ago, and having talked to him and Ant, there is clearly a lot of great technical activity happening which is exciting to be a part of. I also really like the way the company's driven by values. Through the interview process, it sounded like a lot of passionate people working together, who care about what they’re doing, and are interested in revolutionising systems and processes.
What do you hope to achieve in your role?
Dataweavers is already delivering some world-first solutions to customers, so I really want to help grow that IP across platforms, too. I'm also really excited about being the first person offshore and being a part of growing the global presence.
What market opportunities do you see?
In some of my previous roles, we tried to do the type of work that Dataweavers are doing now - but it would take weeks and months. It’s exciting to see that Dataweavers have already packaged up what takes those weeks and months - and it works. So, I see a big opportunity in getting that message out there, so that people know we exist and can do this. It would be great to have more people aware of what's possible with Dataweavers.
